School Environment and Accommodation

Many changes have taken place in our school over the past few years. A Biocycle Unit was installed in 2009 and also a large carpark to accommodate our increasing numbers. We are enjoying the benefits of four fully equipped new classrooms. The construction of these began in 2011 and they were ready for use in February 2012.  In addition to the four new rooms, summer work was carried out in the old school. Three learning support rooms have been created by division of an old classroom and conversion of the old boys’ toilet. New shelving was installed in our staffroom to centralize resources. An additional full size classroom was constructed in 2013.

In 2014, the old school was fully insulated and the whole school was painted.

On October 24th, 2014 the 5 classroom extension was blessed by Bishop William Crean and officially opened by Minister Seán Sherlock.

The fundraising for this project has been incredible. The benefits of the generosity of the people of Glantane and its surrounds will be seen for many years to come.

Glantane School will be forever grateful to all who have contributed and to the tireless work of the fund raising committee.

Glantane NS through the years

School History

Glantane N.S. was opened in September, 1953. At that time, there were two schools in the building: Glantane  Girls N.S and  Glantane Boys N.S. The inside of the school was divided by doors which can still be seen today. The yard behind the school was divided by a wall. The boys and girls were not destined to meet as they had their own entrance doors and even had separate break times!

In 1967, the two schools were amalgamated with John Noel Murphy as Principal. The school was then known as Glantane Boys National School even though there was and still is no shortage of girls!

In October , 1967, Séamus Hennigan took over and retired in 2005. Eamonn O’Sullivan was principal from 2005 to 2018.

Maria Foley is currently our Principal.
