Handwriting without Tears (H.W.T).

In our school this year we have decided to adopt a new method of teaching handwriting called “Handwriting Without Tears” – with the aim of making the learning of handwriting more fun for the children. This programme was developed in the U.S.A. and promotes the improvement of childrens’ overall co-ordination and skills as an important part of childrens’ learning of handwriting. Each lesson involves, music, dancing, learning a handwriting rhyme that describes the correct formation of letters, making the letters with wood pieces, working with play dough, forming letters using chalk to practice the correct letter formation before the children go on to actually write the letters on paper. You can look up videos on you-tube.ie or hwtears.com with your child to see how this method works. We are using station teaching in the classroom where the children move from group to group to practice the new skills. We are all having fun! My beautiful picture

“Literacy Lift-Off”

We are delighted to have introduced Literacy Lift Off in our school this year. The pupils improve their literacy skills in small groups and can work at their own level. The Parents Association have recently funded a large set of books to enable its continuation. All are enjoying the experience thoroughly.
